 Who is the Operation Threshold?

With offices in Black Hawk, Buchanan, and Grundy counties, Operation Threshold provides a number of programs and services for people. By providing education and services, Operation Threshold helps people meet their basic needs and become self-sufficient.

What do they do?

Operation Threshold has many educational programs to service people including:

• WIC - WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) is a federally funded program providing food assistance and nutritional education to pregnant women, and children up to age five.
• Nest - Available for pregnant women, post-partum mothers, and their children up to 5 years of age, this program uses incentives points for healthy behavior. Participants can then use those points for items, such as diapers or wipes.
• TBRA - Tenant Based Rental Assistance helps people secure decent and affordable housing. Inspections are performed at no cost by a qualified housing inspector.
• Housing and Fair Lending program - With everything from classes on homebuyer education and pre/post-loan counseling, to tax assistance and loan document review, this program helps to educate its participants to become more financially literate. 
• Energy Assistance and LIHEAP - This program is designed to assist low-income families meet the need for home heating by providing emergency furnace repairs/replacement.

Why is financial literacy important?

With programs aimed at increasing the confidence for self-sufficiency, Operation Threshold exceeds expectations with the programs it provides. A specific family development program, FaDSS, improves lives by creating these opportunities for self-sufficiency. The program assists families through case management including home visits, support, assessment, and goal setting. Participants in programs offered by Operation Threshold receive education, training, case management, crisis intervention, affordable housing, skill building, transitions from welfare to work, and so much more.
