Get to know the 2017 Board of Directors candidates
Candidates will appear on the ballot in the following order:
Rob Heathers – Des Moines, IARob is a proud Cedar Valley native who was raised to be trustworthy, ethical and diplomatic. He currently works in the retirement planning sector and is committed to implementing superb office administration and customer service. Rob’s past experience includes establishing grassroots campaigns for various non-profit groups and political organizations. Together, this has instilled approaching projects from a high-level viewpoint and the benefits of providing the utmost attention to detail. He studied Film Production and Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Rob currently resides in downtown Des Moines.
Denny Skelton – Ankeny, IADenny seeks re-election to Veridian’s Board of Directors so he can continue to help guide Veridian into the future. Many changes are occurring within the financial industry and Denny plans to use his experience and background as an asset to help effectively navigate those changes for the best interest of our members. Denny’s 33-year career working for credit union organizations includes service as a volunteer on many credit union and community boards. He has served on Veridian’s Audit, Credit and Board Governance committees.
Creston Van Wey – Dewar, IACreston truly enjoys using his experience, knowledge and energy to help people in his community. He has been employed at John Deere in Waterloo for 41 years as a welder and robotics technician. Currently, he serves on Veridian’s board as the Treasurer and has served on all the board committees, including being Chair. He has a diverse financial background, including real estate, retail and small business operation. Creston and his wife are members of Candeo, a local Cedar Valley Church, and he participates in local government as the Poyner Township Clerk.
Bob Klieman – Waterloo, IABob is seeking a seat on Veridian’s board to give back to his community. He is a retired Columbus High School teacher and coach. After teaching, he owned a business and was a representative for athletic wear. Bob has served on many boards because he wants to make the community a better place to live. Currently, Bob serves on the Prairie Meadow Association Board. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Upper Iowa and is working on his Master’s degree. Bob was inducted into the Iowa Association Hall of Fame and the Upper Iowa Hall of Fame.
Dennis Markway – Urbandale, IADennis feels he would be an outstanding board member at Veridian because of his vast experience. He is the CEO of a successful and growing independent Registered Investment Advisor, faculty member at Drake University in the College of Business and Public Administration, and a community advocate and servant to families in Des Moines. Dennis was the Chair of the Financial Planning Association of Iowa, another volunteer board. He is focused on improving services for his association members and the community while creating opportunities for growth and development. In Dennis’s spare time, he is a good husband and father.
Justine Peebles – Ankeny, IAJustine has a vast knowledge of banking practices, compliance and human resources. She has worked in financial services for 12 years. Justine has been a bank and credit union examiner and works at UnityPoint as a Financial Analyst. Justine served on the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Iowa board and the Ankeny Service Center board. She was a 2015 recipient of the Forty Under 40 award. Justine has an Associate’s degree from DMACC and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa. She believes her knowledge of the industry and ability to work with others would benefit Veridian.
Kim Ruyle – Melbourne, FLKim wants to volunteer on Veridian’s Board of Directors because he can make a meaningful contribution. During his 30-year career, he has worked in business, talent management and human resources. He has been the Vice President of Research and Development at Korn Ferry Leadership and Talent Consulting, Director of Learning and Development at Siemens Logistics and Automation Systems, and Manager of Learning and Development Processes and Technology at Deere & Co. Kim has a PhD from Oregon State University and MBA from the University of Wisconsin. He is a Vietnam-era veteran and the author of five books on leadership and talent management.
Kris Glaser – Waverly, IAKris is seeking a seat on Veridian’s board to create opportunities for the future success of Veridian. His work and leadership experience along with his strong interpersonal skills will encourage collaboration among board members. Kris is the Director of Finance at Cedar Valley Hospice. He has been an Accounting Manager at Terex Corporation, Controller at Bellevue Medical Center and Senior Auditor at KPMG. Kris earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and MBA from Purdue University. He is a CPA (inactive), LEAN Six Sigma Green Belt and currently serves on the Waverly Airport Commission.
Brad Andersen – Waukee, IABrad attended Iowa State University (ISU). While at ISU, he double majored in Marketing and Management. Brad is currently employed by TMG, a third-party service provider for credit unions across the U.S. In his current role, as a Project Manager, he has helped new credit unions convert to the TMG system as well as implement EMV tokenization. Brad will provide insight into what he sees other credit unions doing in the industry. He looks forward to helping our credit union grow by joining Veridian’s Board of Directors.
Jason Gray – Emerson, IAJason is seeking to join Veridian’s Board of Directors to actively participate and apply his vast knowledge and experience in the finance industry. He joined Highland Commercial Mortgage in 2016 and opened an office in Omaha, Nebraska. Jason is responsible for the strategic vision and growth of commercial mortgage origination. He brings over 10 years of experience in commercial real estate lending. Jason is a current member of the MBA (Mortgage Brokers Association) and YREP (Young Real Estate Professionals). He is a native of Emerson, Iowa and earned his degree from Iowa State University.
Ashley Lindley – Iowa City, IAAfter graduating from the University of Iowa, Ashley enrolled in AmeriCorps to serve her community. For two years, Ashley managed programming, coordinated volunteers, and developed content for marketing and fundraising at an Iowa City non-profit. While she was very involved in day-to-day operations, Ashley wanted to help guide the strategic direction of the organization. She believes board experience is vital to individuals who aspire to lead a non-profit. As a driven individual with strong written and verbal communication skills, a formal education in fundraising and philanthropy, and a passion for non-profits, she believes she is a strong candidate for this position.
Patricia Pinto – Omaha, NEPatricia wants to serve on Veridian’s Board of Directors because her vision and values are similar. Patricia is passionate about making a difference and being a positive influence in the community. She has an undergraduate degree in Agronomy and Engineering and a Master’s degree in Biotechnology and Genetics. Patricia is fluent in English, Spanish and Hebrew, which is useful in her translation and interpretation business. Patricia has experience in biotechnology, workplace safety and OSHA compliance. She was Secretary of the National Organization of Agricultural Engineering and a volunteer for the Step Out and Serve program as well as the Oil Change ministry.
Ginger Shirley – Waterloo, IAGinger seeks a seat on Veridian’s Board of Directors because she has a passion for educating people. Ginger wants to help give members information, products and services that enrich their lives and futures. She is an Assembler at John Deere in Waterloo and a deaconess at Koinonia Ministries Full Gospel Baptist Church. Ginger volunteers for the City Side Christian Mission, Local 838 John Deere Union and Iowa Selections Service Board. Currently, she serves on the Veridian board on the Strategic Planning and Credit committees.
Dr. Imad Youssif – Coralville, IAImad has worked in the investigative, accounting and financial fields since 1985. He has concentrated his efforts on forensic accounting assignments since 2006 and launched his own consulting business, Forensic Accounting Consulting. Imad’s specialties include: interviews and analysis for legal proceedings, reviews for possible fraud, investigation of elder exploitation cases, forensic accounting for divorce, and forensic accountant services for a variety cases. He has strong analytical, investigative and presentation skills. Imad worked as a Banker, Financial Planner and Fraud Investigator with the United Nations. His work experience and training help Imad develop a financial picture, even with incomplete documents.
Scott Anderson – Brandon, IAScott is a dedicated and courageous servant leader. As a current board member, he is committed to the values of Veridian and believes employee benefits and membership are key to continued success. Scott has held positions on the Executive Committee and served on all other committees. He has completed the continuing education and attended credit union conferences to keep him up-to-date on the trends and issues in the financial industry. Scott is open-minded and loyal. He wants to work hard for you and uphold Veridian’s values. Scott retired from John Deere after 33 years of service.
DyAnn Longseth – Waverly, IAFrom 1993 to 2016, DyAnn served on Veridian’s Senior Management team in the areas of: Marketing, Member Experience, and Diversity and Inclusion. Her experience is in strategic planning and execution, marketing, public relations, branding, continuous quality improvement, business development, research and development, and member experience initiatives. DyAnn’s community service includes: Red Cross, Wartburg’s Pathways Advisory Group, Waverly Planning and Zoning, Hawkeye Community College Foundation, UNI Leadership Council, KBBG Advisory Group, and the Cedar Valley Diversity and Inclusion Council. She wants to serve you to ensure Veridian remains welcoming, provides amazing service and helps with your financial needs.
John Hoich – Valley, NEJohn has always wanted to be a part of the banking industry in a director capacity. It has been his goal to share his experience and knowledge from being in business for 40 years. As a business owner, John has managed thousands of employees across the U.S. His experience with volunteer, service and business organization boards is quite extensive, including the positions of President and Vice President. John has received over 50 awards. He attended UNO-Omaha for two years and continues to learn about business, real estate and horticulture. It would be his pleasure to serve on Veridian’s Board of Directors.
Katie Henderson – Des Moines, IAKatie has been an ITS healthcare professional for over 12 years. She specializes in the development and improvement of processes and provides executive leadership with in-depth financial and performance analytics. Over the last eight years, Katie has provided support to CHI Inc. as a Project Manager. She brings structure and LEAN cost savings initiatives to the entire enterprise, while maintaining performance and customer satisfaction within the healthcare environment. Katie is a small business owner with her own line of crafts. She will add a fresh viewpoint and understanding of executive level needs and business requirements to Veridian’s Board of Directors.
Daniel Stokes – Des Moines, IAAs a member for over 20 years, Daniel is seeking a position on Veridian’s Board of Directors. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Finance from Iowa State University. Daniel has spent 19 years working for the Iowa Department of Transportation. He is currently a Management Analyst. As an Iowa native, Daniel sees his passion for his home state aligning with Veridian’s commitment to its members. Daniel participates in these organizations: Meals from the Heartland, Lupus Foundation and Splash of Color Breast Cancer Support Group.
Sandra Commons-Martin – Cedar Falls, IASandra knows one of the first things you will notice about her is physical, a walker or a power chair. However, that does not describe her. Sandra is a capable, intelligent woman with many skills that she would like to use as a member of Veridian’s Board of Directors. Sandra’s background includes: Red Cross volunteer, blood drive worker, Recovery Room volunteer for a surgical unit, live-in caregiver for traumatically brain-injured adults, team member for live-in senior housing, Manager for Family Apartments, and Assistant for the Church Director and board of directors at a large church.
Gaylen Witzel – Cedar Falls, IAGaylen is a current member of the Veridian Credit Union Board of Directors, serving on the Audit and Strategic Planning committees. He has many years of Veridian board experience having served as Board Chair and Chief Financial Officer, as well as, chair of all other committees. A Cedar Falls resident retired from Deere & Co. as a skilled trade supervisor, currently works part time for Carmi Flavors, an international flavor company. Gaylen is an experienced leader and holds himself accountable to each Veridian member/owner. Following our vision and mission, he supports our staff, board and Veridian’s financial future.
As a credit union, we’re organized differently than other financials. Veridian is a not-for-profit financial cooperative owned by our members. That means all net earnings are returned to members in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings rates, and low-to-no fees. Veridian is also governed by a volunteer board of directors who are elected by our members. Each member has one vote in the election for our board regardless of how much money that individual has on deposit.
