Who needs to sign a check to deposit it?

For a check deposit, the endorsement requirements depend on who the check is made payable to:

If the check is payable to one person, that person should sign the back of the check in the endorsement area.
If the check is payable to two people, whether one or both must sign depends on how the payees are listed:
- "John Smith and Jane Smith": Both must typically sign.
- "John Smith or Jane Smith": Usually either person can sign.
If depositing through mobile deposit, write "For VCU Mobile Deposit Only" below the signature(s).
