Veridian Credit Union has earned the No. 1 spot among all U.S. credit unions in Callahan & Associates' Return of the Member Index for the second quarter of 2026, recognizing the value Veridian delivers to its members every day. The index is a quarterly ranking of all 4,300 U.S. credit unions for the overall value they provide, measuring how effectively each credit union returns value to their members.
“This recognition is especially meaningful because it reflects that we’re staying true to our purpose, helping our members build stronger financial futures and providing value that lasts,” said Veridian President and CEO Renee Christoffer. “As a member-owned cooperative, these efforts are core to our mission, and I’m grateful we have such a meaningful way to measure that impact.”
The ranking uses regulatory call report data from credit unions across the country and evaluates performance in three key areas: return to savers, return to borrowers and member service usage. The index considers a variety of factors, including:
- Returns provided to members through savings products
- Competitive lending and loan availability
- Member growth and engagement
- Product usage and relationships
- Fee levels and overall value delivered to members
Together, these measurements provide a comprehensive view of how well a credit union fulfills its mission of serving members first.
Veridian has consistently ranked among the nation's top-performing credit unions in the Return of the Member Index and has remained in the national top 10 since 2022. Veridian also ranked No. 1 for seven consecutive quarters from late 2017 through mid-2019. Today, Veridian is the only credit union headquartered in Iowa, Nebraska or Minnesota to earn the No. 1 ranking within the past five years.
