Nearly 2,800 Iowans shred documents, protect identities at Community Shred Days.
Veridian hosted two free Community Shred Days at five branches across Iowa recently, where nearly 2,800 people protected their identities by shredding 69,643 pounds of unwanted, sensitive documents. Mobile shred trucks from Onsite Information Destruction, Inc. were stationed at select Veridian branches in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Waterloo on Saturday, September 30, and in Ankeny and West Des Moines on Saturday, September 23.
“We host Community Shred Days to remind our communities of the importance of shredding unwanted, sensitive documents,” said Trina Becker, Veridian’s manager of loss prevention. “It’s an easy step to help protect your identity, and events like this make it even more convenient.”
The events’ attendance and material shredded at each site were measured as follows:

The shredded material will be recycled into commercial-grade paper towels, toilet paper and other paper products. Since Veridian’s first Community Shred Day in 2009, an estimated 30,000 attendees have shredded more than 740,000 pounds of documents, saving 6,281 trees. Veridian’s next Community Shred Day will be scheduled for the spring.

As a credit union, we’re organized differently than other financials. Veridian is a not-for-profit financial cooperative owned by our members. That means all net earnings are returned to members in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings rates, and low-to-no fees. Veridian is also governed by a volunteer board of directors who are elected by our members. Each member has one vote in the election for our board regardless of how much money that individual has on deposit.
