Seek out other perspectives during Celebrate Diversity Month.
April is Celebrate Diversity Month, a time to recognize and honor the diversity surrounding us. Diversity refers to the many ways we're different from each other, including ethnicity, gender, disability, culture, religion, age, and sexual identity. At Veridian, we believe those differences make us stronger, as we each bring our own unique experiences and perspectives with us.
While diversity allows us to recognize the differences among us, we must also build an inclusive environment where those differences are welcomed and respected. Veridian's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy is designed to create that environment for employees and members while helping our communities. One of Veridian’s strategies is to strengthen our communities through financial education and homeownership, especially for groups that have historically faced housing discrimination.
You can make a difference! Take the initiative to learn more about other cultures and groups – and get your friends and family involved too. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Watch documentaries, read books, and listen to music from around the world.
- Search for #diversitymonth on social media to hear from other perspectives.
- Support minority-owned businesses.
- Try a recipe from another culture's cuisine.
Remember to keep an open mind and try to understand where people are coming from even when you may not agree with them. Take the time to embrace something new and don’t be afraid to ask questions!
