What happens when a minor account holder turns 18?
When a member turns 18, youth savings and checking accounts are automatically converted to standard account types within a few months of turning 18. Account numbers do not change.
Any CDs remain in place until maturity and then automatically close, with funds transferring to savings. The account owner receives a notice prior to maturity and may contact the credit union prior to maturity to make changes before the CD closes.
