What Are Authenticator Apps?
Multifactor authentication (MFA) is a great way to add an extra layer of security to your Veridian digital banking account. For the best security, we recommend setting your account up with an authenticator app.
What Is an Authenticator App?
An authenticator app generates a temporary code, directly on your mobile device, that remains valid for a limited time, typically 30 to 60 seconds. If you don't enter the code within this timeframe, you must generate a new one.
Many MFA systems allow use of authenticator apps to enhance security for online accounts.
Popular authenticator apps include Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, and Authy.
Why We Recommend This Method
Authenticator apps are the most secure way to protect your account because they don’t rely on sending codes to your phone. Instead, the code is generated directly in an app on your device and changes every 30 seconds. This means:
- No delivery risk: Hackers can’t acquire codes through email or text messages because nothing is sent over the internet or phone network.
- No dependency on contact info: You can update your phone number or email anytime without affecting your login security.
- Better for travel: If you’re out of the country, don’t have cell service, or can’t receive calls/texts, you can still log in easily because the app works offline.
- Extra protection: Even if someone gains access to your email or phone, they still can’t get your authentication codes.
Before You Begin
- From the app store on your device, download an authenticator app, like Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, or Duo to your mobile device.
