Summary
The Manager of Data Governance is responsible for defining, implementing, and enforcing data governance policies and procedures for Veridian Credit Union. This strategic business leader and subject matter expert collaborates across Veridian to treat data as a critical asset, ensure regulatory compliance, and support data-driven decision-making.
Essential Functions
- Possess and maintain deep knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to the financial services industry (e.g., GLBA, NCUA Part 748, GDPR, CCPA, Basel III, BCBS 239, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, HIPPA).
- In alignment with organizational objectives and regulatory requirements develop, implement, own, and evolve the organizational data governance program, including the framework, policies, and standards for the organization.
- Define, execute, and regularly review a roadmap to mature the enterprise data governance program, including annual objectives, KPIs, and measurable outcomes.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the organization’s data governance program, bridging business needs and technical realities.
- Establish and lead a cross-functional data governance committee to align business requirements, resolve data-related disputes, and support governance decision-making.
- Define data ownership models, classification schemes, and lifecycle management practices to maintain data integrity, security, and appropriate use.
- Establish data quality standards, metrics, and KPIs to monitor, measure, and improve data quality across the organization.
- Collaborate with data stewards to identify, analyze, and resolve data quality issues and discrepancies ensuring consistent application of data quality practices.
- Ensure accountability for data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across systems and platforms through defined standards and governance oversight.
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Information Security teams to define, implement, and enforce data access, security, and privacy policies.
- Hold functional areas accountable to data governance policies, escalating non-compliance or unresolved conflicts to CIO/GRCM committee as required.
- Maintain and monitor enforcement of data lifecycle and record retention policies in alignment with regulatory and business requirements.
- Ensure required data governance documentation, including data inventories and data flow diagrams, is current and audit-ready at all times.
- Ensure accountability for data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across systems and platforms through defined ownership, standards, and governance oversight.
- Advocate for effective data management and champion a culture of data literacy and accountability by promoting awareness, understanding, adoption, and ongoing education on data governance best practices across the organization.
- Partner with IT teams to ensure technical solutions and data architecture align with business needs and governance policies.
- Provide on-going coaching to all team members that encourages personal, professional and career development. Clearly define expectations of all team members.
- Interview and hire the most qualified applicant for position openings. Provide initial orientation and on-going support to team members on the mission, vision, values and leadership culture of the organization.
- Plan and prepare for the future by being open minded, perceptive, and proactive. Make decisions that support the members, the department and the organization as a whole both financially and strategically.

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
Travel
Limited travel expected.
Required Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in data governance, compliance, or related roles.
- Strong understanding of financial regulations and their impact on data handling.
- Knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK principles and practical application to data governance, data quality, metadata, and data lifecycle management.
Preferred Education And Experience
- Experience working within financial services or fintech.
- Advanced degree or data governance certification (e.g., CDMP, DGSP).
- Experience with data governance tools and frameworks (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Collibra).
- Familiarity with technology systems and data structures. Experience with or knowledge of Databricks and Unity Catalog a plus.
