Summary

The Senior Commercial Loan Officer is responsible for the origination and day-to-day management of a commercial loan portfolio comprised of large and complex credits totaling up to $100 million. The position creates and maintains strong relationships with commercial borrowers and depositors, with the goal of continually bringing new business to Veridian. This position works closely with Commercial Services support staff to monitor commercial relationships and maintain servicing requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Create excellent services experiences that promote the Veridian brand.
  • Responsible for the origination and day-to-day management of a commercial loan portfolio totaling up to $100 million.
  • Knowledgeable of compliance and regulation related changes in commercial lending and recommend changes when necessary.
  • Interview commercial loan applicants. Accurately prepare all required documents pertinent to the granting of a loan including updating member records.
  • Collect and analyze all information pertinent to the granting of a loan to determine the general credit worthiness of the applicant the merits of the specific loan. Recommend approval, disapproval, or referral of loan, if appropriate based on the credit approval limits set in the Commercial Lending Policy.
  • Approve loans within credit approval limits set in the Commercial Lending Policy and serve as the contact officer on loans above these limits when submitting to the VP of Commercial Services and/or the Commercial Lending Committee.
  • Establish and negotiate, where necessary, the terms under which credit will be extended, including the costs, repayment schedule and collateral requirement.
  • Advise members, where possible, on business management and financial matters and refer members to available resources such as SCORE and SBA.
  • Work together with the Credit Analyst and Loan Assistant to create the loan file and obtain necessary documentation pertinent to the decision-making process.
  • Collect and analyze information as required which reflects the current credit worthiness of borrower during annual review, loan renewal, or at loan maturity.
  • Collect on past due loans and negative accounts daily; monitor delinquency and cash flow concerns closely.
  • Develop new commercial loan and deposit business by contacting prospects and members.
  • Provide necessary follow-up at loan completion, including reserve/core deposit account balances, payment of property taxes, payment of insurance premiums, filing of security agreements, etc.
  • Actively sell products and services offered by the credit union.
  • Contribute positively to team effort by consistently achieving established goals and expectations.
  • Participate in community events, groups or organizations that promote Veridian Credit Union’s products and services.
  • Provide leadership to branch/department staff. Assist with developing staff to increase knowledge, understanding, and experience in commercial lending.

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.

Travel

Limited travel expected.

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience of 8+ years.
  • 5+ years experience in business/commercial lending.
  • 5+ years of experience with credit analysis.
