Chief Financial Officer
Summary
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for developing the strategic direction for the divisions of Internal Audit, Accounting, and Finance at the credit union. The position provides strategic leadership by articulating each division's needs and plans to the Executive Team and the Board of Directors.
Essential Functions
- Plan the strategies and operations of the following divisions and departments, including knowledge of laws, regulations, and credit union policies and procedures related to Internal Audit, Accounting, and Finance.
- Work in conjunction with the Management Team on special projects including research, preparation and distribution of reports and follow-up.
- Work in conjunction with the Chief Officer team on bank acquisitions and credit union mergers.
- Responsible for overseeing the process of creating the annual operating budget for the credit union and The Veridian Group. The budgets will be consistent with established goals and the long-range plan.
- Responsible for establishing and overseeing various investment, hedging, securitization, loan participations, and Asset Liability Management strategies for the credit union, in conjunction with the Asset and Liability Management Committee which includes investments in venture capital funds and Veridian Credit Union investments in CUSO's.
- Responsible for researching and determining partners that are critical to Veridian's success. Build and maintain relationships while holding these key strategic partners (i.e. vendors, fintechs, business partners, etc.) accountable for agreed upon deliverables and results. Ensure Veridian provides exceptional service to those business partners where agreements have been established and Veridian is the service provider.
- Monitor Veridian's primary competitors to determine competitiveness and areas of opportunity regarding loan rates, deposit rates, etc.
- Stay abreast of regulatory or compliance related requirements that may impact financial performance.
- Responsible for monitoring financial results and key metrics of the Credit Union and CUSO and informing board and management of performance. Identify trends or risk factors to present for discussion with the Executive Team.
- Complete all necessary financial projections for strategic level decisions.
- Responsible for overseeing the completion of quarterly asset liability management board reports.
- Serve on the Commercial Lending Committee as a decision maker. Stay up to date on decision making criteria, risk factors and items pertaining to loan quality for commercial loans.
- Serve as a member on the Asset and Liability Management, Commercial Lending and 401(K) Investment Committees.
- Serve as a board member of The Veridian Group.
- Together with the other Executive Team, responsible for the management of the Credit Union in the absence of the President/CEO.
- Act as liaison to the Audit and Risk Committee.
- Provide on-going coaching to all team members that encourages personal, professional and career development. Clearly define expectations of all team members.
- Interview and hire the most qualified applicant for position openings. Provide initial orientation and on-going support to team members on the mission, vision, values and leadership culture of the organization.
- Plan and prepare for the future by being open minded, perceptive, and proactive. Make decisions that support the members, the department and the organization as a whole both financially and strategically.

Travel
Extensive travel; valid driver’s license required.
Required Education And Experience
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Five years of leadership experience in a management or supervisory role, or ten years of related experience with a proven track record of increasing responsibility, leadership, and professional growth.
- Certified Public Accountant.
Preferred Education And Experience
- Master's Degree.
- 5+ years of experience in a financial institution or closely related field.
