Waterloo, Iowa: Veridian Credit Union hosted the 30th Annual Mike and Leona Adams Thanksgiving Dinner on Monday at the United Auto Workers 838 Union Hall. Volunteers prepared a feast for more than 750 people seeking a free hot meal and companionship. The Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging delivered another 350 dinners to its current Meals-on-Wheels recipients.

Former Veridian board member Mike Adams and his wife Leona established the free annual meal in 1982 when tough economic times were hitting many Iowans. Thirty years later, though both Mike and Leona have passed, the tradition that still bears their name has grown. Those who attended this year were also offered a free haircut from Clip Art Corner, free blood pressure checks from Cedar Valley Hospice and free transportation from anywhere within Black Hawk County from Met Transit.

"This event aligns with the credit union philosophy of people helping people," said Jean Trainor, President and CEO of Veridian. "We're proud to play a part in a tradition that benefits so many in our community."
