Waterloo, IA - - - Veridian Credit Union held a free Community Shred Day on Saturday, October 1, at five branch locations throughout Iowa.
The event drew approximately 3,000 people, who protected their identities in an environmentally friendly way by bringing 75,488 pounds of documents to be shredded. Veridian partnered with Iron Mountain and On-Site Document Destruction to provide on-site shred trucks for the events at Veridian branches in Ankeny, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo and West Des Moines.
The shredded material will be recycled into commercial grade paper towels, toilet paper and other paper products. Veridian estimates that the Community Shred Day saved 943 trees.
Veridian also partnered with Goodwill Industries’ Reconnect program to help participants safely discard old computer equipment at no cost.
