- - - Over 20 pieces of original artwork created by Marion High School students are currently on display at Veridian Credit Union's Blairs Ferry branch at 5805 Rockwell Drive NE in Cedar Rapids, in front of Super Target. To celebrate, Veridian will host ArtShare Premier on Wednesday, February 21 at 5:30 p.m. This free event is open to the public.
The display is part of Veridian’s award-winning ArtShare program. ArtShare was developed by Veridian to increase the awareness of young artists in the community. Artwork currently on display includes paintings, drawings, photography and pottery.
The paintings, drawings, and photography are professionally framed and matted at Kyle’s Framing & Gallery compliments of Veridian. The framed artwork will be returned to the students after it is displayed for six months and replaced with new student artwork. Pottery and sculptures are displayed in a case in Veridian’s lobby.
“Veridian has provided our students an opportunity to exhibit exemplary art work in a professional manner,” said Barb Shultz, Marion High School art teacher. “We feel very fortunate to be involved in the ArtShare program as it adds another incentive for students to strive to reach higher levels with their art work.”
As part of the ArtShare program, Veridian has established the ArtShare Scholarship. The scholarship supports the development of outstanding high school students who excel in the arts and who plan to pursue educational programs leading to a career in the arts. Veridian awards one $1,000 scholarship annually for undergraduate tuition.
“We are excited to recognize these student artists in our community by showcasing their talent in our branch,” said Mark Koppedryer, Veridian regional manager. “Through the ArtShare Premier and Scholarship, we hope to strengthen the value of art in our community.”
