- - - The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, along with Veridian Credit Union, is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2010 Inclusive Community Grant, which was made possible through the Veridian Credit Union Fund. The Inclusive Community Grant targets programs that integrate persons with disabilities, persons of modest means or low income, or Latino immigrants into the community.

A Des Moines organization, Adventures in Social Drama, received funding for a program titled "Theatre for Social Change." This program will allow teens with autism to attend drama classes alongside their peers. The 10-weeks of drama classes will conclude with a performance open to the public.
Living History Farms Foundation, located in Urbandale, received funds for their program "Opening Doors to Inclusive Programs." Living History Farms will partner with the YWCA's Kids Included Together (KIT) program, offering training for all Living History Farm staff.

The program is focused on developing museum-wide understanding of how to be more inclusive of individuals with disabilities in all their programs and services.
A Waterloo recipient, North Star Community Services, received assistance for their "Inclusive Community Theatre Project." Funds will support a community theatrical performance where persons with and without disabilities work together to design and create sets and costumes, produce and act in the play "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," which will be held at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center.
Winnebago Council of Boy Scouts, also in Waterloo, received grant funding for their program titled, "Summer Camp Campership." This program gives youth from low-income families an opportunity to attend Cub Scout and Boy Scout summer camp programs alongside youth who have the monetary means to attend. Through programs that are both fun and educational like archery, horseback riding, nature study, first aid training and soil and water conversation, participants will learn team-building skills, create a positive self-image, have positive adult role models and meet new friends.
Young Parents Network, of Cedar Rapids, has been awarded funds for "Bright Futures en la Familia en Communidad." Funding will provide group activities for Latino and non-Latino low-income families to come together in a social atmosphere to foster healthy parent/child interactions, interact with other families, develop and practice positive parenting skills and participate in community activities they otherwise would be unable to enjoy due to limited financial resources, lack of transportation or other barriers to active community participation.
Diversity Service Center of Iowa, based in Muscatine, was awarded funds for the "Minority Senior Program." This program brings together English and non-English speaking low-income seniors for meals, socializing and educational sessions.
Veridian Credit Union, founded in 1934 in Waterloo, Iowa, is a not-for-profit financial cooperative owned by its members. The credit union offers a full range of consumer financial services and employs more than 500 Iowans throughout 25 branches.
The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, serving Black Hawk County and 20 affiliate counties, is a permanent public charitable foundation built by donations from individuals, families, organizations and businesses. For over 54 years, Cedar Valley residents have been turning to the Community Foundation to help their community.
