Waterloo, Iowa: Veridian Credit Union will host a community shred day at five branch locations across Iowa on Saturday, October 12. Iron Mountain and On-Site Information Destruction have partnered with the credit union to provide on-site shred trucks, allowing participants to protect their identity by safely disposing of unwanted, sensitive documents. Goodwill Industries will also be available at each location to accept unwanted computer equipment.
The shred events are free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to noon at the following Veridian locations:
Ankeny: 1201 S. Ankeny Blvd.
Cedar Rapids: 2810 Edgewood Road SW
Iowa City: Hy-Vee East, 812 S. First Ave.
Waterloo: 1827 Ansborough Ave.
West Des Moines: 5910 University Ave.
Each location will accept up to two 20-gallon totes of paper per person to shred. All shredded material will be recycled. In 2012, Veridian shred sites drew 2,500 people and shred 61,000 pounds of documents, saving an estimated 768 trees. Goodwill Industries encourages people to erase the hard drive on their computer prior to donating. Donated equipment will be recycled or refurbished and sold through the Dell Reconnect program, with proceeds benefitting Goodwill's job training programs.
