Waterloo, Iowa: Veridian Credit Union and CUNA Mutual Group have announced a joint contribution that will expand The Leader In Me program into Kittrell Elementary and George Washington Carver Academy in Waterloo. A combined $105,000 commitment was presented to the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber (GCVAC) at Thursday's new teacher breakfast. The GCVAC organizes the program through its Leader Valley initiative.
The Leader In Me incorporates leadership lessons into the existing curriculum at Cedar Valley schools with reference to Dr. Stephen R. Covey's book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People." The program is designed to equip students with key life skills, self-confidence and accountability. Thanks to the contribution, the program will be implemented at Kittrell Elementary and George Washington Carver Academy this fall, making a total of 14 local schools and more than 6,000 local students who participate in The Leader In Me program.
"At Veridian Credit Union, we believe everyone is a leader," said Jean Trainor, Veridian Credit Union's CEO and Chief Inclusion Officer. "The Leader In Me program demonstrates that same belief and benefits our entire community as much as it does the students who participate." Reid Koenig, Senior Vice President of CUNA Mutual Group agreed, adding, "Our communities and businesses will reap the benefit of building great citizens and leaders for years to come."
