Veridian Credit Union event shreds documents, protects identities

Waterloo, Iowa: Veridian Credit Union held a free Community Shred Day on Saturday, May 17 at five Veridian branches across the state. The event drew more than 1,200 people who safely discarded 30,588 pounds of private documents in an environmentally friendly way.

Veridian partnered with Iron Mountain® and On-Site Information Destruction, Inc. to provide the shred opportunity at Veridian branches in Ankeny, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo and West Des Moines. The shredded material will be recycled into commercial grade paper towels, toilet paper and other paper products. In total, an estimated 382 trees were saved.

"Community Shred Day is one way we can help people take simple measures to protect their sensitive information," said Shawna Matz, Veridian's Vice President of Branches. "The shredded material is also recycled, so participants are benefitting the environment as well. It's a win-win." Veridian is planning to host another Community Shred Day on October 4.
