Waterloo, Iowa: Veridian Credit Union will host a Community Shred Day at five branches across Iowa on Saturday, May 17. Iron Mountain® and On-Site Information Destruction, Inc. will partner with Veridian to provide on-site shred trucks, allowing participants to protect their identity by safely disposing unwanted, sensitive documents.
This shred event is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to noon (or until the shred truck is full) at the following Veridian branches:
Ankeny: 1201 S. Ankeny Blvd.
Cedar Rapids: 2810 Edgewood Rd. SW
Iowa City: Hy-Vee East, 812 S. 1st Ave.
Waterloo: 1827 Ansborough Ave.
West Des Moines: 5910 University Ave.
"Community Shred Day is one way we can help people take simple measures to protect their sensitive information," said Shawna Matz, Veridian's Vice President of Branches. "The shredded material is also recycled, so participants are benefitting the environment as well. It's a win-win."
Each shred site will accept up to two 20-gallon totes of paper per person, and all shredded material will be recycled. In 2013, Veridian shred sites drew 3,100 people and shredded 77,800 pounds of documents, saving an estimated 973 trees. Veridian is planning to host another shred event on October 4.
